Arts in Leadership

At Middle Church we celebrate the arts, not only in worship, but in all of our congregational life. We believe human beings are created in God's image, and as such, have the capacity for great creativity. We believe what Friedrich Nietszche once said, "Art is the proper task of life." Art, we believe, is life. Art heals our souls, so we are better equipped to heal the world. Our artists, adults and children, are leaders. They are writers, singers, filmmakers, actors, dancers, painters, sculptors, and photographers. They use art to inspire us in worship, to teach us in the classroom, to send the vision of a healed world in the culture, to captivate the imaginations of a culture yearning for justice.
